The Essence of Dissent in Democracy

I have read many dystopian novels- 1984, Animal farm, Trial, and many in my reading list. I come from that generation that can turn a digital satire into the voice of dissent in present day majoritarian-democratic country.

Dissent is the Courage which Socrates talked about, the courage to speak against the power. The ability to say what is right and not following the prevailing popular narrative.

When asking for accountability of tax payers money is labelled as futile demand by some tax payers themselves. Isn't this intellectual deprivation of the masses?

No amount of technology can fill this lingering lacuna. Technology is maligned by algorithmic biases. What's engages you the most tends to dominate your feed, such is the rot of attention economy. The same reasoning fits well to explain the continuation of mainstream media houses, even though they are hijacked by the state but they still hold influence on certain age groups.

Plato held that in a Republic, good men must find their way to govern otherwise be ready to be ruled by someone inferior. Dissent is the means for the good people to come at the forefront. Their voice turning citizens into protestors demanding accountability of the elected. Such political churning gives way to the election of Philosopher's King as a symbol against anarchy.

The most fearful is the inferior man in power who is scared of any opposition. And cowards are those who question the need to protest. But by nurturing loyalists to the Big brother, they have been able to make this fear look like their might. Such fragile might is not long lived when collective consciousness is awakened in a particular generation who doesn't believe in hero worship & monologue but real ground work and dialogue.

Disincentivising dissent leads to persistent deprivation in all spheres. Burning down of Palais de Versailles showed the ultimate anger of the people as an echo for change.

This change doesn't come through resignations but replacement of Big brother by Philosopher's King.
